GUAR AND GUAR GUM
The Guar plant, Cyamopsis tetragonolobus belongs to the family of Leguminosae is cultivated in the arid and semi arid region of the Indian subcontinent. It’s a 5-8 cms long pod bearing nitrogen fixing legume. It is an annual crop and is sown at the end of July and harvested in November. Now India has various quality of Guar seeds and it cultivates two hybrids crops in a year.
The Guar Gum Powder (Guar Galactomannan) is obtained from the endosperm of the legume seed Cyamopsis tetragonolobus is a high molecular weight hydrocolloidal polysaccharide, composed of galactan and mannan units combined through glucosidic linkages. This Hydroxyl group is treated for manufacturing various derivatives and industrial grade of Guar Gum.
